Secure Productive Enterprise – The Ultimate License Bundle– The New Enterprise Cloud Suite

Secure Productive Enterprise – The Ultimate License Bundle– The New Enterprise Cloud Suite

What is Secure Productive Enterprise?

Companies want to continue to use the most advanced technology to enable their employees to achieve more, but all of these new and different products have resulted in a licensing headache. We hear constantly that attempting to navigate around Microsoft licensing can be challenging and frustrating. Microsoft created the Enterprise Cloud Suite (ECS) a few years ago in an attempt to simplify this process. It was a single licensing option that included E3, the Enterprise Mobility + Security Suite and Windows Desktop upgrade. Building upon this initial base Microsoft is now continuing to simplify this process with the introduction of the Secure Productive Enterprise. This will be bringing together Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise upgrade, and the Enterprise Mobility + Security suite into a single licensing offering called the Secure Productive Enterprise. This will be replacing the Enterprise Cloud Suite and Microsoft will be introducing even more options by also offering an Office 365 E5 option in the bundle.

Moving forward Microsoft will be standardizing packaging offers across Office 365, Windows 10 Enterprise, and the Enterprise Mobility + Security Suite by offering two tiers of the Secure Productive Enterprise: E3 and E5. This is what it will look like:

Secure Productive Enterprise

Microsoft will continue to evolve the Windows E5 edition by adding more functionality. The first difference is the introduction of Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection for end point breach detection.

What is Microsoft’s Enterprise Cloud Suite (ECS)?

First and foremost, it’s a new licensing bundle of products from Microsoft. It can be hard to understand considering it is a bundle of bundles. Moving to the cloud from a traditional licensing plan can be confusing. We hope this brief overview gives you the highlights of this new option. We will look at what is in the ECS Suite, how it is the same, and how it is different than today’s enterprise desktop license model.

Here are the four components of the ECS Suite:

What are the benefits of the ECS Suite?

  • Simpler – One sku is licensed by user that includes the most popular cloud offerings.
  • Discounting – Microsoft puts a compelling discount onto the bundle versus purchasing the individual pieces.
  • Licensed by userWith the average employee using more devices for business like tablets, mobile phones, and even home PCs, licensing by user makes sense for most scenarios.
  • Ability to decrease license count – In the crazy world of mergers and acquisitions, it is important for some organizations to be able to decrease their licensing headcount as their business changes.  Most ECS licensed agreements are able to have their quantity decreased “true down” on the anniversary of the agreement down to a minimum of 250 users.
  • Like all Microsoft agreements, customers have the ability to add licensing at any time.

In today’s model you have your CAL suite, plus Office and Windows.

What is Versionless?

Versionless software is software that is always up to date with incremental improvements.  Microsoft has flipped the coin.  Clients used to have to wait for functionality to be available in the cloud.  Now the cloud gets the functionality first and on premise comes later.  This change is tremendous for clients.  The number one obstacle that clients have told me to utilizing new software is the deployment.  Now in the cloud, Microsoft takes care of that deployment and keeps the product up to date.  From the slides you can see their commitment to the cloud and how much functionality is being released on a regular basis. The 2013 graphic was produced in the late summer time frame so it doesn’t include new functionality like encryption included in the E3 plans that came out later in the year.
